ASSEMBLÉE is a new series: an opportunity for WIVES collective (Emma-Kate Guimond, Julia Thomas & Aisha Sasha John) to align with other performance-makers to promote hybrid forms of genre-defying live art. ASSEMBLÉE is a new platform for artists who work with their own bodies and divergent materials in order to tackle the problems of form itself.
WIVES are Studio 303’s first curators-in-residence. Created in response to a growing interest in performance curation, and to the dire lack of professional development resources for curators, this residency offers a framework for developing ideas through research, discussion and practice.
This edition of ASSEMBLÉE will feature performances by:
– Sarah Chouinard-Poirier (Montreal)
Sarah Chouinard-Poirier cares. Her body acts – in both the performative and the theatrical sense. She takes the audience with her through stories about women and about communities, about times and about feelings.
– Madison Palffy (Northampton)
Madison Palffy’s performances reveal her to be veritable energy worker. Her humour decalcifies what might be hard in us – and her deftness with composition allows what might be disparate in us to gather.
– Rachel James (New York)
Rachel James’ work demonstrates that ideas are experiences. That is its power. The work’s grace is that her ideas are so beautiful.
– Winnie SuperHova (Montreal)
Winnie SuperHova practices a deep inquisitiveness into the relationships between bodies – human, plant and object – through empathy, telepathy and intuition. She is an old soul but a young human.
– With sculptures by Jacinthe Loranger (Montreal)
Jacinthe Loranger makes colourful things: collage, paint, sculpture. Encrusted in the two dimensional, mythical beings fill out into three dimensional presences that are so « trash » they are already dead.
– And live music video by J. Ellise Barbara (Montreal)
As a performer J. Ellise Barbara is spellbinding. Her music videos are as dreamy, sharp, and tender as her music. She’ll record one live.
