I’VE NEVER BEEN TO YOUR HOUSE BEFORE

choreographed and performed by Madison Palffy and Sarazina Joy Stein

Hampshire College / April 2014

What do we really want out of performing? Do we want to be loved, do we want to impress? How do we want to be seen? We exaggerated these desires into personas and portraits. This piece is part of my obsession with duets--the ability to look at two people moving in unison simultaneously highlights differences and also amplifies small details. We asked, how are we the same? How are we sculptures? Much of the movement material of this phrase also came from our investigation into how the senses are at play in dance--which is often constructed as a visual form. We asked how we could bring a sensuality--literally an amplification of all of the senses--to our dancing.
